The AT&T Running & Fitness Team finished third in Division 1 behind General Electric and Lockheed Martin in the 32nd annual Corporate Cup Relays held in San Diego July 18 – 19, 2009. Boeing and ExxonMobil rounded out the top five. A total of 14 corporate teams participated in the event.
The competition includes distances on the track from 100 to 3200 meters along with field events and 5K and 10K road races. The events mirror the profile of corporations with requirements for men and women of all age groups as well as various levels of management and represented personnel.
The team drew from employees across the country representing 10 business units and several retirees. Some members of the team were 30-year veterans, and for others it was their first year to participate. Debbie Slavin, VP of Strategic Planning and Implementation, AT&T Advertising Solutions, a 2 year team veteran, points out that
Being a part of the AT&T national team, is one of the best examples of teamwork. It didn’t matter where you worked within the company – we were fellow athletes with the goal of doing our best for the AT&T team.
Additionally the event raises funds for the American Cancer Society and the Special Olympics. Danny Stein of Business Markets notes,
Not only does the team provide benefit to AT&T and the individuals that participate, but I can not think of two better charities to receive contributions from AT&T’s involvement.
Thanks again for all the work done by everyone, in preparing for the meet, from each competing athlete, to the details handled by the various coordinators and especially to Lou Putnam for all of his efforts to rebuild the team back to previous standards. Thanks to David Leung and Hadi Sadrosadat for taking and sharing their photos this year.
